Championing the Game with Actros Sports Partners

Share

Gravette Capital is pleased to announce its strategic involvement with Actros Sports Partners, a key player in the realm of private equity investments within the sports industry. Here’s an insight into the landscape of such investments and our role in them.

Sports Franchise Investments: A Strategic Overview

Historically, the allure of investing in professional sports teams has seen an upward trajectory, as highlighted by Actros Sports Fund I, a predominant stakeholder in a multitude of major and minor professional sports teams. To enumerate, this includes 3 NBA Franchises, 3 NHL Franchises, 2 MLS Franchises, 7 MLB Franchises, and 3 teams within European Football. Additionally, they have marked their presence in “minor league” franchises across various sports. Between 2021-2022 alone, substantial capital flowed into sports franchises, notably European football giants like AC Milan and Chelsea Football Club.

Actros culminated Fund I in 2021, having amassed a substantial $2.9 billion. With 25 strategic investments under its belt, it positioned itself at the vanguard in North American leagues, actively exploring sports team ownership avenues.

The strategic integration of private equity firms into team investments augments the attractiveness of the sports league proposition. With a fixed number of professional sports teams available, demand tends to surpass supply. This scenario naturally inflates team valuations, a financial dynamic that benefits both team owners and private equity investors.

Gravette Capital’s Stake in Actros Sports Partners

Our association with Actros implies that we hold a fractional ownership in a consortium of professional sports teams, through Actros’s diversified portfolio. The diversification strategy employed by Actros intends to mitigate potential risks, ensuring optimal returns for all stakeholders, including Gravette Capital.

Spotlight: Actros Sports Fund II

Given the remarkable success of Actros Sports Fund I, the unveiling of its successor, Actros Sports Fund II, was only a matter of time. Initiated in late 2021, this fund is on the cusp of realization with a target corpus of $2.5 billion, anticipated to be achieved by the second quarter of the current fiscal year.

What distinguishes Actros from its counterparts is its exclusive endorsement to invest across the four cardinal U.S. sports leagues: Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League. The strategy for Fund II is discernibly refined, earmarking 15 to 20 investments, each ranging between $50 million to $500 million, as opposed to the previous spectrum of $20 million to $400 million.

Projecting Success for Actros Sports Partners Fund II

If the performance metrics of Actros Sports Partners Fund I serve as a precedent, the future looks promising for Fund II. As of September, Fund I showcased a compelling net multiple of 1.51x and an impressive net IRR (internal rate of return) of 86.7%. With a targeted pool of $2.5 billion, it is poised to deliver substantial profitability.

Gravette Capital is enthusiastic about its partnership with Actros Sports Partners and looks forward to further collaborative endeavors that advance the interests of all stakeholders involved.
